Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the entrance to the Fred Oldfield Western Heritage and Art Center?
We are located inside the Red Gate of the WA State Fairgrounds — 9th Ave SW between Fairview Drive and S. Meridian. To the left of the red-roofed ticket counters — look for a big blue hanging sign that says “Fred’s Creative Kids Art Classes.” You will enter through a black iron gate and then into the building on the left through the brown door.
Where do I park?
There is street parking along 9th Ave SW between Fairview Drive and S. Meridian. You can also park along 4th St. SW or the green grass lot across from the red gate at the intersection of 4th St SW and 9th Ave SW. We recommend you check with the WA State Fair Events Center to see if they are hosting any events (graduation, concerts, shows, etc.) that could affect the availability of close parking. Their phone number is (253) 845-1771.
What should my party guests wear?
Although we provide aprons or large shirts for children to wear while they paint, we recommend you tell your guests to wear play clothes, just in case some paint ends up on their clothes.
Do parents stay and wait?
We ask that at least one responsible adult stays throughout the entire time. Any and all adults are welcome. For those staying, please remain in the designated waiting area and keep your voices down while students are painting so they can concentrate on their artwork.
Can non-painting siblings come?
Non-painting siblings are welcome to come, however, we ask that you please keep a close eye on them. There are many valuable paintings and artifacts in The Center. We require a signed liability form to book a party, so for the enjoyment of you and a busy toddler, you might prefer that they stay home.
