About Our Dance Class Teacher

Sophie Marie is trained in Ballet and Modern dance. She received her Bachelors of Arts from Bennington College in Dance Composition and Neuroscience. She has taught dance for the last decade and is excited to return to Washington State to teach at the Fred Oldfield Western Heritage & Art Center!

Dance Class Instructor

Monday

12 – 1pm Homeschool Teen Beginning Ballet (13-17)  $66 or $59.40 for Early Bird Pricing

This class will be a fun but rigorous jump into ballet technique and history. In this class we will learn basic barre and floor exercises as well as longer phrase work. Every other week we will take time to learn about the history of ballet and begin to develop our own choreography.

2:30-3pm Baby Ballet (3-5)
$30 or $27 for Early Bird Pricing

This class will be a fun and energy-filled time! The kiddos will learn basic ballet terminology and class structure while jumping, spinning and being fairy tale characters!

4:00-4:45pm Mid- Beginning Ballet (5-8)
$45 or $40.50 for Early Bird Pricing

With a little more structure than the baby ballet but just as much fun, the students in this class will learn basic ballet terminology, class structure and will begin longer floor phrase work.

5:00-6:00pm Teen Modern (13-17)
$66 or $59.40 for Early Bird Pricing

Open to all levels. This class will jump right in and begin learning classic and more contemporary modern dance practices. This class will begin with floor work, move into phrases and begin to learn the basics of partner work. Every other week we will take time to learn the history of modern dance and develop our own choreography.

6:30-7:30pm Adult Modern & Bodywork (18+) $72 or $64.80 Early Bird Pricing

This class will include partner work and physical touch. Open to all skill levels. At the beginning of each class, we will begin with an element of bodywork. Bodywork is a term used for learning through touch, These exercises will include massage, stretch, and movement manipulation. The second half of the class will be focused on learning classic and contemporary modern dance techniques. Please bring a yoga mat if you have one!

Wednesday

7-8pm adult modern (18+)
$72 or $64.80 Early Bird Pricing

Open to all skill levels. This class will be a rigorous jump into modern dance technique. It will begin on the floor, move to simple and complex phrase work and end with choreography development.

Thursday

3:30-4:15pm Creative Movement (4-6)
$45 or $40.50 for Early Bird Pricing

This class will be focused on movement and play. The students will experience different kinds of warm ups and exercises. These will include influences from ballet and modern. The students will be encouraged to also find their own unique way of moving!

4:30-5:30pm Tween Beginning Ballet (9-12)
$66 or $59.40 for Early Bird Pricing

This class will be a fun but rigorous jump into ballet technique and history. In this class we will learn basic barre and floor exercises as well as longer phrase work. Every other week we will take time to learn about the history of ballet and begin to learn choreography.

5:45-6:45pm Teen Beginning – Intermediate Ballet (13-17)
$72 or $64.80 for Early Bird Pricing

This class will be a fun but rigorous jump into ballet technique and history. In this class we will learn basic barre and floor exercises as well as longer phrase work. Every other week we will take time to learn about the history of ballet and begin to develop our own choreography.

Frequently Asked Questions

Where are the dance classes held?

Dance classes will be in the same location as the current art classes — The Fred Oldfield Center — entrance at the Red Gate of the Washington State Fair.

What is the attire for dance class?

All the dancers should wear comfortable clothes that they can move in. This could be tights/leotards or leggings. For the baby ballet classes, they can either have ballet shoes or socks. Teen ballet should have ballet shoes if possible. Modern should either be in socks or barefoot.
